What a busy week!

A few weeks ago the piece on the back of my car that opens the trunk broke, so I haven’t been able to get my trunk open. Luckily I can put my back seats down so I can get bigger things in and out of my car. I wasn’t able to get an appointment to have it fixed until Wednesday, and of course, the dealership is an hour away. The only reason for having it repaired at the dealership is because my car is still under warranty so it won’t cost anything to have it fixed.

Meanwhile, both keyfobs to my car start messing up, too. Fortunately, it happened before I had to take my car in, so they could see what was going on with that, too. Unfortunately, when I get to the dealership, they tell me it sounds like an issue with the computer so they had to keep my car overnight. It’s a good thing we have an extra vehicle, otherwise, I’d be stuck! Of course, they don’t call to let us know the car is ready until late Thursday, which means we couldn’t pick it up until Friday. But they can’t fix my trunk because the piece that needs to be ordered won’t come in for 40 days. And he has no idea why. What???

While we were out there, we went to pick up some things we needed for repairing our other house (which we’re still working on, too). We passed by a car wash that has been there for years and always seemed to be super busy. The roof on the front of the building was torn up and the back of the building was smashed in by rocks. Apparently, a mudslide hit the building back in January and destroyed it. It was deemed a total loss. Luckily there were no injuries.

After picking up the materials we needed, we grabbed lunch at Firehouse Subs (my favorite sub place!) and then grabbed a box of cupcakes at a place called Bubblecake. The cupcakes are huge! They also have babycakes, which are smaller. But if you’re going to a place like that for the first time, you just have to get the big ones.

I got 2 cupcakes – Bake Sale Brownie and Carrot Cake. I haven’t tried the carrot yet, but the Bake Sale Brownie is so good! It tastes exactly like a frosted brownie. However, I have to say that it’s not my favorite. There’s a small cupcake shop next to where we used to live that has the best Strawberry Shortcake cupcakes. She puts the cream inside the cupcakes, which is delicious! She also makes the most beautiful (and delicious!) cakes.

After lunch and cupcakes, we went to our other house to get some more work done. (If you’re new here and would like to see our home renovation updates, click here.) A while back, our roof leaked causing water to damage the ceiling in the dining room area. And I’m not just talking about a little damage. Eventually, the ceiling just broke!

So this past weekend, my husband cut that part of the ceiling out and used some leftover drywall to repair the hole. He also added a box so we can put a light there. Before we just had a lamp in the corner. Having a light over the table will be so much better!

Now we just have to patch that up, clean and paint the ceiling, and add a light!

Over the weekend, I painted one of the bedrooms and prepped another bedroom to be painted this weekend. Things are moving along quicker now, thank goodness. Instead of selling, we are considering renting it out. Have you ever rented out a home before? If so, do you have any tips or advice? We’ve done a ton of research, but it’s still nice to hear from actual people if that makes sense.

What’s on the menu this week:

  • Monday: Pancakes and Eggs
  • Tuesday: Baked Potato Casserole; Cucumber Slices; Watermelon
  • Wednesday: Burger King
  • Thursday: Spaghetti; Small Salad
  • Friday: Ham Crescent Rolls; Fries; Green Beans
  • Saturday: Out
  • Sunday: Viola; Breadsticks

Dessert: Cupcakes

Positive Story of the Week

The animal shelter from my hometown had a room full of cats. There were so many that they couldn’t accept any more and were afraid some of them would have to be euthanized, something they never want to do. They held an adoption event and every single cat was adopted! How amazing!!

Fun Photo of the Week

When I went to wake my daughter up Wednesday morning, I noticed there was a huge bug on the top of her bedpost. Once I got closer, I realized it was a Praying Mantis.

Of course, she wasn’t too fond of that thing staring at her while she was sleeping, but I thought it was pretty cool. My daughter had a check-up appointment last Friday and her doctor came into the room a little later than usual. She apologized and said that it was because she had to give a patient an emergency Covid test. (I don’t know why it was an emergency test.) Ever since that day, my daughter has been so scared she is going to get Covid.

So seeing the Praying Mantis praying over her while she slept gave me peace of mind that she’s going to be okay. Even if some people think “it’s just a bug”.
