August is already here! I can’t believe it! My daughter is already making her Christmas wishlist and looking at Christmas decorations. She said we need a lot more this year since we have more room to put things. I have to keep reminding her that just because we have more room doesn’t mean we have more money!

But apparently, we need at least 5 more Christmas trees, according to her. So starting today I’m gladly accepting Christmas tree donations.

I’m kidding, of course! Please don’t send me your Christmas trees.

Now back to August. Since we’re still in the hot miserable season of summer, I’m still decorating for summer.

And since we’re into another new month, it’s time for another fun monthly DIY challenge hosted by Terrie from Decorate and More with Tip. If you’re looking for some great DIY home decor inspiration, she’s got you covered!

If you’re here from Jodi’s blog, welcome! I’m so glad you’re here! Didn’t you just love her DIY?

This month’s theme is DIY Blogger’s Choice Challenge, meaning we get to choose what type of DIY to make. How fun!

For this month’s challenge, I chose to make a summer grapevine wreath to decorate my front door. This worked out perfectly because I needed to update the wreath anyway. I just took down the Fourth of July wreath I made and reused it to make a summer grapevine wreath.

Let me show you how to decorate a grapevine wreath for summer.

How to Make a Summer Grapevine Wreath

What you need:

  • Grapevine wreath
  • Flowers (I used a few different bunches from Dollar Tree)
  • Burlap
  • Floral wire

What you do:

Step 1:

I wanted to layer the flowers on my DIY grapevine wreath, so I started with just the greenery.

To do this, I laid 2 pieces on the wreath opposite each other. I bent them slightly so they would match the curve in the grapevine wreath. Then I used the floral wire to hold them to the grapevine wreath, making sure to wrap it around a few times to get it tight.

Step 2

After the greenery was securely attached to the grapevine wreath, I added a layer of purple flowers.

I laid the flowers right on top of the greenery and secured them to the wreath with the floral wire. I’m sure you’re wondering why I used so much wire. Since the summer grapevine wreath is going on the outside of the front door and we tend to get strong winds here sometimes, I didn’t want the flowers to blow away.

Step 3

Next, I added another layer of smaller white flowers and secured them by wrapping the floral wire around all the layers and a piece of the grapevine wreath.

Step 4

Finally, I added a burlap bow. I made the bow myself, but honestly, I can’t really explain how I did it. There are a lot of video tutorials out there for making bows. This part gave me such a hard time, mainly because the burlap I have doesn’t have a wire in it. To make a bow easily, I’d definitely recommend getting wired burlap ribbon.

Step 4

Finally, I hung the DIY grapevine wreath on my door and then fluffed out the flowers to make it look a little fuller. Then I hung the wreath on my front door.

I loved how it turned out! And since I already had everything on hand, this fun DIY project didn’t cost me a dime to put together!

  • It looks so pretty on your door! Pinned AND I follow you on Pinterest, too!

  • This wreath is so light and soft for summer.

If I had room I'd have tons If Christmas trees too.

So exciting, your first Christmas in the new house

    • Thank you! Lots of trees would be so pretty. ?
I know! I'm so excited! And hopefully the family room will be done by then. ?

  • I do love a quick and beautiful summer wreath. I hate using hot glue so great tip on using the extra wire to hold florals in place. I can’t imagine decorating 6 Christmas trees ... but love the way your daughter thinks.

    • I hate using hot glue on wreaths. Mainly because I'm always taking them apart and changing them up. Lol! Decorating all those trees is too much for me! I don't see how the people at Hallmark do it! Haha! Thank you so much for reading!

    • Thank you!! My mom used to gather the grapevines she found in the woods behind our house when I was little. She would make wreaths and all kinds of things. They were so pretty!

  • Michelle, the wreath turned out beautiful! Six Christmas trees would be a huge undertaking!

    • Thank you!!
I agree! I have no idea how Hallmark does it! ? I would have to hire a team just to decorate them. Lol!

  • First, let me say your daughter is AMAZING! Six Christmas trees? YES, please! Secondly, I love the color combo purple and white! Your lovely wreath will carry you all the way into fall!

    • Haha! You are more than welcome to come over and help her decorate all those trees. :D
Thank you so much! And it's easy enough to change out for fall, too. :)

  • It came out beautifully! Perfect for your front door. And perfect until, you make one for Fall.
And so you need 5 more Christmas Trees… I love how she thinks.
I can’t imagine decorating all those. Although maybe she will help.
    Good luck!

    • Thank you so much! And it's easy to switch out for fall, too. Which I'm most excited about! :D
My daughter loves Christmas. She starts planning all the decorations during summer. She loves to decorate, but hates to take everything down so that's all left up to me, of course. haha!
