Saturdays on the Porch
Welcome to the porch! Grab a drink and come sit a spell!
Welcome to Saturdays on the Porch. I thought I would start a new post every Saturday where I share things that I’ve been up to throughout the week. I’d also love for you to share anything exciting that happened to you in the comments!
If you’re new here, welcome! I’m glad you’re joining me on the porch today!
Many of you know that we moved into our new home last week. This past weekend I was helping my husband carry a large pet cage down the outside steps. I missed one of the steps and twisted my ankle, turning my right foot all the way over. It hurt really bad, but it looked okay.
However, the next day my entire foot swelled, causing even more pain. On the third day it started to bruise. Yuck! So needless to say, the boxes are still sitting around the house just waiting for me to unpack them. Luckily I managed to get all the bathrooms and the kitchen unpacked last week.
On the day we moved into our home, the neighbors across the street moved out. It took them 3 or 4 days to move out, even with U-Haul trucks. They must’ve had a ton of stuff! A few hours after they finished moving out the new neighbors were already moving in. They seem like a really nice family, with 2 little boys and a daughter the same age as our daughter. Now to just get them to meet and be friends!
Home update:
Last week, I unpacked everything in the kitchen and organized the pantry, which made me realize I really need to stock up on food. A really nice hanging pot rack was left behind so I took advantage of it and hung up my pots and pans.
My husband finished the floor in our bedroom and closet before we moved in.
He also painted the bedroom walls.
We found a new area rug at Lowe’s that matched the room and bought new end tables and lamps from Amazon. The lamps are touch lamps and have USB plugins on the base which is perfect for charging our phones at night.
I cleaned out the bathroom cabinets and drawers, then placed shelf liner from Dollar Tree in all of them and organized them. There are two sinks with matching cabinets and drawers, but I’m just going to show mine here.
We still have some more work to do in the master bedroom, including:
- hanging curtains
- bringing in my dresser
- remodeling the walk-in closet (adding more hanging rods and possibly some drawers)
- hanging some artwork and adding a few decor items to make it cozy
- Monday: McDonald’s (Because I couldn’t stand up and cook anything.)
- Tuesday: Soft tacos with nachos
- Wednesday: Spaghetti with butter rolls
- Thursday: Hot dogs with French fries and baked beans
- Friday: Grilled Chicken with green beans, mashed potatoes, and rolls
- Saturday: Eating out
- Sunday: Cheese ravioli with a side salad
This week’s dessert: Crock-pot Hot Fudge Cake
My favorite posts from around the web this week
Cleaning:
I’m not sure if you saw the Instagram post from Go Clean Co last year, but their mopping with Tide powdered laundry detergent post went viral during the pandemic. I thought for sure this isn’t any different than regular mopping, but so many people were amazed by it. Of course, I had to prove them all wrong.
I purchased a spin mop (I had been wanting one for years anyway) and a small box of Tide laundry detergent.
I decided to give it a try on my bathroom floors and I was so surprised! Our master bathroom was covered in sawdust from where my husband was working on our bedroom floor. After sweeping the floor really well, I tried their floor cleaning recipe and I was shocked! It worked so well and I only needed to mop once! Plus, the Tide will last me forever!
So, I didn’t get to prove anybody wrong. But I’m ok with that this time!
Organizing:
How to keep the clutter out of your house: Katie from Organizing Moms has the best tips for stopping clutter before it gets started. My favorite one is to refuse free things. I cannot tell you how many plastic water bottles with company logos I’ve collected over the years. Every time we went to a kid’s event we were given another bottle. They take up so much space and never get used.
DIY/Crafts
This sun hat wreath caught my eye on Pinterest this week. I love how simple it is to put together and how cute it looks hanging on her door! You can check out it’s made on the We Three Shane’s blog.
Book of the week:
I’m currently reading These Tangled Vines by Julianne MacLean. It was a free download for last month’s Amazon Prime First Reads. (If you’re a Prime member, you get to choose a free book to download each month.)
I’m only about halfway through the book because I haven’t had time to read lately, but so far it’s been a pretty good read.
You can find the book on Amazon.
Here’s the description from Amazon:
If Fiona has learned anything in life, it’s how to keep a secret―even from the father who raised her. She is the only person who knows about her late mother’s affair in Tuscany thirty years earlier, and she intends to keep it that way…until a lawyer calls with shocking news: her biological father has died and left her an incredible inheritance―along with two half-siblings.
Fiona travels to Italy, where the family is shocked to learn of her existence and desperate to contest her share of the will. While the mystery of her mother’s affair is slowly unraveled, Fiona must navigate through tricky family relationships and tense sibling rivalries. Fiona both fears and embraces her new destiny as she searches for the truth about the fateful summer her mother spent in Italy and the father she never knew.
Spilling over with the sumptuous flavors and romance of Tuscany, These Tangled Vines takes readers on a breathtaking journey of love, secrets, sacrifice, courage―and most importantly, the true meaning of family.
Fun photo of the week
My cat Amber loves to watch YouTube videos of birds and squirrels. This week her videos came to life as she got to watch a squirrel on our back porch. She was so happy that she was that close to an actual squirrel!
This week on the blog
Just in case you missed it, here’s this week’s blog posts:
I hope you enjoyed your Saturday on the porch with me! Did you have something exciting happen to you this week? Or something you’d like to share? Please tell me in the comments. I’d love to know!
Awww Michelle hope you’re recovering quickly from the ankle injury. I really love this “Saturdays on the porch” I’m in the process of changing up my blog, I felt it was time for a face lift 🙂 for something new and exciting. I’m also changing around things in my home, getting rid of things that suddenly look old and worn and making room for something new. Your house looks beautiful, enjoy xoxo
Thank you!! It’s hard to rest because I have so much to do! ? That’s great that you’re changing things up on your blog and in your home. Sometimes it’s nice to have a refresh. Thank you for sharing! ❤️ And thanks for your kind words about the house. I can’t wait to finish up the many projects. ?
You are doing much in the new house and it looks absolutely fantastic. You are making it very homely ! I love that house!
Thank you so much! It’s finally starting to feel like I’m home and not just on a weird vacation. ?
We are still looking ans one fell through….. so one day I will feel like you! 🙂
Oh no! I hope it’s soon. Wishing you all the best!
Congrats on your new home! It’s so pretty. Have fun moving in and getting all organized. I’m sorry about your ankle, though. I hope you heal quickly and can move easier. Not the best timing, right? Our master bedroom and bathroom are being remodeled so things are topsy-turvy for us. It’s getting closer to being done and I can’t wait to move back in! Have a great weekend!
Thank you so much! No, not the best timing at all. There’s so much left to do! Good luck with the remodel. How exciting! Yet they can be so stressful too with everything all a mess. I’m excited for you to have a new bedroom and bathroom! ? I hope you have a great weekend, too!
Hope you’re feeling better!
Maybe it was a blessing to help you slow down and enjoy everything you’ve done.
Thank you!!
That’s how I’m looking at it. But now it’s been almost a week and I’m tired of sitting. Haha!
Lol!! Don’t worry. When you finally get up you won’t sit again for a while… enjoy it!
You’re exactly right. ? Will do!
It looks like you had a full week. Your new house looks amazing.
Thank you so much! It’s slowly coming together but it’s finally starting to feel like home.
Sorry you’re injured! Take turmeric to speed the healing . I love your house! Hardwood floors are so beautiful. Nice kitchen, too ! Hope your neighbors are nice. Enjoy setting up your house!
Thank you so much for the tip! I’ll try that. ? Thank you! It’s finally starting to feel like home.
Your new house looks wonderful! I love the colors in your bedroom and your husband did a fantastic job on the floors! I hope you can get it just the way you want it soon.
Thank you so much!! It’s finally starting to feel like home. ?
Hope you are recovering from the ankle injury Michelle. Slow down the work and enjoy organizing the new house. Furnishings looks really awesome. Have a great weekend. ?
Thank you! It’s finally starting to feel like home. I’m taking a lot of breaks with ice packs. ?
This is a great post. Your house is coming along nicely and I hope your ankle is fully recovered soon!
Not much exciting happening in my world this week. My mum had her second COVID vaccine so that’s a good sign.
Thank you! I hope so, too so I can get the rest of the boxes out of the way. ?
That’s good news. Did she have any reactions? My mom had her 2nd one and the next day she felt horrible.
My mum was okay after both her shots, other than a sore arm. It seems it affects different people differently.
That’s good. I’m glad she didn’t feel bad afterwards.
Love this ‘Saturdays on the porch’ post.
Hope you feel better soon and get settled in. House is looking really good.
Thank you!! I thought I would try something new.
Thanks! It’s finally starting to feel like home. ?
So sorry to hear about your injury!! I hope your ankle heals up quickly. This is such a great idea; it’s like a peek into your life! LOVE your new kitchen by the way!
Thanks! Me, too because I hate having to sit around. ? Thank you!! Luckily I got all the kitchen stuff unpacked before twisting my ankle. Lol! I’m glad you enjoyed the post!
Sitting around when you don’t want to sit around is the worst; while sitting around when you want to is divine! ? I hope you’re feeling better these days ❤️.
I like the Saturday post. You have beautiful new home! Enjoy and may you rest that ankle!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked the post. ? I’m trying to stay off my ankle as much as possible but it’s hard. ?
Michelle, I hope your ankle is getting better each day. I like the new series and your porch is a beautiful setting to relax! I know you are enjoying your new home.
Thank you so much! It’s healing, but slowly. Yes, I’m enjoying being in our new home, especially now that I’m forced to relax. ?
Hi Amber (says Moon Pie!)!
Amber says hi back! ?
Awesome! *paw bump*
Your new home looks gorgeous! So sorry about your ankle—?? for quick recovery. Take care of yourself!
Thank you so much! ? I’m doing a lot of sitting so it’s slowly healing.
Oh no! I hope you recover quickly, I feel for you girl! ?
Thank you! It’s definitely no fun. ?
Oh no! I hope you have been able to rest your ankle up and that it is well on the mend now! Like the idea of this post, and that porch just looks so inviting. Can’t wait to see everything you do with your new hoise!

Thank you so much! ? I’m resting so it’s slowly healing. I just hate to sit around all day. Lol!
I am really sorry to hear about your foot! I hope it heals soon, so you can get back to being yourself and getting your home together.
Thank you!! It’s slowly healing. ?
I love this idea of Saturdays from the porch! Your house looks so nice – my dream has always been to have a front porch. Please, don’t mess around with your ankle! I did something similar, didn’t go to the doctor, and 9 months later, I may need surgery. Rest and don’t push it! xo
Thank you! And thanks for the advice on the ankle. I’ll definitely keep that in mind and stay off of it. I hope you don’t have to have surgery on yours! ?
Oooooooo I’m so sorry about twisting your ankle! I did that right before the pandemic shut down! I had a high ankle sprain and I know what you are going through! I know you have lots to do but try hard to ice it and rest it.
The floors in your bedroom came out beautifully! And the paint color is quite pretty and the perfect rug to match! Such fun to start setting everything up!
I love your new Saturday’s on the Porch! Looking forward to the next one!
Happy week to you!
Oh no! I’m glad you’re feeling better. It’s definitely no fun. I’m trying my best to stay off of it.
Thank you! Everything is slowly coming together and it’s so exciting!
I’m glad you like the post. Thank you so much for reading! ❤️
I really love this Saturdays on the Porch post! So many fun things packed into this post! I hope your ankle is getting better. Picturing what happened made me cringe. I can only imagine how painful it was. I love all that you have done with the house so far. The pictures are beautiful. I might have to try that Tide mopping idea. Nothing makes me happier than clean floors. And my floors seem to get dirty all too quickly with two dogs. I am definitely going to check out the article on keeping clutter out of the house. We have been getting rid of a lot of stuff lately. But it doesn’t seem to put a dent in it!! Thanks for the tip on getting a free book from Amazon every month. I do have Prime but I didn’t know about that! I have been missing out! I love the photo of your cat and the squirrel! One of my dogs likes to chase the squirrels. Thank goodness he has never caught one.
Thank you! The house is slowly coming together and it’s really exciting!
I can imagine! I have two cats and while they’re not dirty they do shed everywhere. It’s so annoying! ?
I’m glad your dog hasn’t caught a squirrel yet either! Poor squirrel! Haha! I’m pretty sure if my cat was outside and one came near her she’d run and hide. ?
I hope your ankle is better! What a beautiful house! Enjoy it!
Thank you so much!! ❤️
Please keep posting your Saturdays on the Porch. I LOVED IT! One of your best posts ever. I hope your ankle has healed, I have been there done that, on the stairs also carrying a heavy rocker. The bruising was fierce. It lasted much longer than the pain. I hadn’t heard of this Tide thing…I am fascinated. Thanks so much for the info. I’ll be watching for more Saturdays on the Porch.
PS Your new home is awesome…really beautiful.
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
Oh no! That’s terrible about your ankle. Mine is slowly healing. The swelling is going down on my foot and I have bruising at my toes and along the side of my foot. No fun.
Mopping with Tide blew my mind! ? It’s amazing!
Thank you! I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week.
It was years ago…I’m careful to not carry anything heavy on the stairs now. Did the mopping leave any streaking. That is usually my worst problem in the kitchen…I mop and it looks worse.
It didn’t leave any streaks on my tile floor. I haven’t tried it on the hardwood floor yet. I think the secret is to make sure the mop is damp and not soaking wet. ?
Thanks! ?
You’re welcome! 🙂
Fun idea!!! Love this name, ‘Saturday’s on the porch’❤️
The house is looking so fresh, I especially love how your bedroom turned out and the wall color is beautiful, it reminds me of my newly painted dressers!!
Keep the house updates coming as you move along!☺️
Thank you! I’m so glad you liked it!
Yes! I was thinking about your dresser when I was thinking about how everything is becoming new and fresh here. ?
I’ll keep you updated! Thanks so much for reading!
?❤️
I’m so sorry Michelle I’ll be praying for you! But hey congrats on the article yay!!!
Thank you so much for your prayers. ? And thank you!!
Sorry to hear about your ankle, Michelle. The interior of you new house looks amazing! I like the new Saturday on The Porch theme. I’m pretending the water I’m drinking is wine. 🙂
Thank you. It’s slowly healing.
Thanks! Everything is coming along slowly and it’s pretty exciting!
There’s nothing wrong with pretending. I don’t like wine so I pretend, too. ?
Amazing effects ❤
Thank you!!
Congratulations on your lovely new home! So exciting!
Thank you so much!!
Hope your ankle is better. Your new home looks lovely, and those boxes will wait.
Thank you so much! You’re right – the boxes have no choice but to sit there. ?
I’m LOVING your new wall colour! So sorry to hear about your ankle. I hope you’re feeling better!
Thank you so much! I was worried I wasn’t going to like the color because it looks different before it dries. But when it dried I loved it! ? Thank you! I’m slowly healing.
I love this idea and catching up with you. Your home is looking lovely.
Thank you so much!! 🙂
I loved reading what you’ve been up to this week! I’m sorry to hear you twisted your ankle – I hope it heals quickly! I have spent most of today and yesterday trying to catch a vole that our cat brought into the house (alive). I finally managed to catch it today and released it outside! x
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the post. ? My ankle is healing slowly, but it’s getting there, thank goodness.
Oh no! I’m glad you got it out! Cats are so funny sometimes!
They definitely are! I’m glad your ankle is healing!
This was such a fun blog post to read! Love seeing and hearing how you are getting along in your new home! That paint you chose for your M Bedroom is gorgeous! Hope that ankle heals quickly! I know for someone like you whose always on the go it must drive your crazy to have to sit! LOL!
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed the post.
At first I was a little worried I might not like that color blue, but after seeing it dry against the white trim and dark floors I loved it!
It’s terrible having to sit down! You know me too well! ?
Your house is so beautiful! I’m so sorry you hurt your foot, take care!
Thank you so much! It’s starting to feel like home. 🙂 Thank you! It’s slowly healing.
