Welcome to Our New Home!
We just purchased a new home! Follow along with us as we fix up our new “old” house!
I’ve been MIA and I apologize.
But I have a really good excuse!
We finally found and purchased a new home!
Well, it’s new to us, anyway. It’s actually an older Colonial-style home built in the ’40s. There are 2 new additions added to the home – a kitchen and a family room.
Of course, there’s quite a bit of fixing up to do and I cannot wait to start! As you can see in the photos, the shutters need to be repaired and repainted. I cannot wait to start working on the outside of this home to give it some major curb appeal!
Would you like a tour? Sure you would! Come on in!
Welcome to our new home!
Walking up the walkway from the street you can see new boxwood shrubs that were planted and the solar lights along the path. You can also see that I have some weeding and mulching to do. Too bad they didn’t add new mulch when they replanted new boxwoods!
As you walk through the front door, you see the stairs directly in front of you.
To your left (the first picture) is the formal living room. The door leads out to a covered side porch. (Another project I can’t wait to take on! It needs to be repainted and I can’t wait to hang some ferns!)
To your right is the dining room. There are 2 big windows to let in a lot of natural light.
Let’s take a left and go into the formal living room, which is currently full of tools because we’re refinishing our bedroom floors and painting our daughter’s room before we officially move in.
It’s been quite chilly in this room so far, so I’m hoping that’s a good thing during summer!
Since we’re not “fancy formal” people, our plan is to use this room for my craft room/office. So I can’t wait to have space to make all the things!
Over to the right side of the house and through the dining room is the kitchen. Honestly, the kitchen and family room are what sold me on the house. Mostly because of all the windows and all the natural light that comes in during the day.
In the first photo on the left is where we’ll put a kitchen table. Right now a blanket is being used as our table, so it’s like we have a picnic whenever we get to eat there. Fun memories!
Off the kitchen is a Butler’s Pantry, which gives me even more storage! (I’m a little over-excited about all the storage space in this house!) On the wall to the right of the Butler’s Pantry is another pantry. (Yes – MORE storage!!)
Across from the Butler’s Pantry is the back door, which leads out to a nice-sized deck. There’s a small closet by the back door, which is perfect for cleaning supplies!
Now let’s go into the family room, which is another addition to the home.
When you walk into the family room from the kitchen, you see the wall with the fireplace. On the opposite side of the room is a wall of built-ins. I’m not sure what they had in the center – maybe an old TV with a VCR? (Please tell me I’m not the only one who remembers what a VCR is!)
This is my favorite wall in the whole house! I love all the windows and all that natural light!
The doors lead out to the back deck.
Let’s go back inside now and see what’s upstairs.
Walking back through the living room and by the kitchen, we come to a small hallway that leads back to the front of the house. The door directly in front leads to the basement. There’s also a door to the right which leads to a small room and a guest bathroom. I plan to use the small room as a homeschool room until my daughter graduates.
At the top of the stairs is a little sitting area. I thought it would be cute to have 2 comfy chairs in each corner. What would you do with that space? I welcome any ideas!
Through the door beside the “sitting area” is the smallest bedroom, which we’re going to turn into an office. My husband has been working from home a lot so an office is much needed.
Around the corner and at the opposite end of the hall is my daughter’s bedroom. She’s super excited because it’s way bigger than her current bedroom.
Plus, she has 2 closets! Which is a good thing because she has WAY more clothes than I do, so she needs more space.
Another added bonus for my daughter – her own bathroom!
She’s already made her plans for the bathroom – remove the tub and have a huge walk-in shower. I love that idea!
From my daughter’s room and down the hallway is our master suite. (There’s also a really large attic. Which means more storage!!)
When you go through the master bedroom suite door, the walk-in cedar closet is right in front of you. For some reason, there are paint splatters on the floor, but we are refinishing those.
The closet goes back and wraps around to the left. The shelving is a little odd so we’ll probably redo all of that at some point.
The master bedroom floors are definitely in need of refinishing. The realtor said the bedroom was smaller and where those weird wood pieces are on the floor was where the wall actually was. They expanded the bedroom and added the closet, but never fixed the floor. (The walls will be painted, too.)
Across the small hallway from the bedroom door is the master bathroom. It needs updating, but that’s a project for later. I’m done remodeling bathrooms for a while. They’re a pain!
At least there’s a walk-in shower and it has a seat! I guess my daughter can use my shower and I can soak in her tub.
That’s all for upstairs! Now let’s go back down and tour the basement.
Once you get down the steps to the basement, there’s a room to the right. I’m not loving the carpet, so hopefully, that can be replaced later on. But…all those shelves equal more storage!
I thought it would be fun to turn this area into a game room. My daughter put all of our video games and board games on the shelves already!
When you leave that room, you walk through another small room, which leads to the laundry room. Another room that needs a major update sooner rather than later.
There’s a door beside the laundry room that leads to another part of the basement. The owners left a lot of boxes in that area of the basement. I can’t wait to go through them all! One person’s trash is another person’s treasure!
The tour of our new home is finally over! I hope you enjoyed coming along with me!
I have so many projects planned and I can’t wait to share them all with you!
This is a lot more house than I’m used to so it will take me a little bit to adjust. We haven’t officially moved in yet. We wanted to get the master bedroom floor refinished and the walls painted first.
Stay tuned next week for another reason why we haven’t been able to move in yet. Hint: It’s not exactly a good reason…

Good luck on your house hunting. Homes are selling so fast!
How absolutely wonderful Michelle, it looks gorgeous, and so spacious. You will no doubt put your mark in it and love it. We are house hunting too at the moment. So hopefully we will be as lucky so you too.
I bet you can;t wait to move in properly.
Thank you! I love it! And yes, I can’t wait to move in. ?
Good luck with your house hunting. Homes are here are selling as soon as they hit the market. We had to work fast to get this home.
Oh wow Michelle what a beautiful house, and I got a really warm feeling just looking at the house in the first picture. It’s a really lovely and welcoming home, and I love the windows too, I love natural light. Wishing you love, light and blessings to you and your family and lots of happiness here. xoxo
Thank you so much!! ❤️ I got the same warm feeling as soon as I saw it. It just felt like home compared to all the rest we looked at.
Congratulations!!! Such excitement to make plans in your new space. I pray you all will be very happy here.
So spacious and those windows, the natural light and the deck. Enjoy!
Thank you so much! I’m so excited to finally be able to move in and make it my own. ?
Awesome!!!
I’m so happy for y’all!! And it looks like it has a great backyard!
Now’s time for your YouTube channel. Show us how you renovate and clean up, and make this house a home ?
Thank you so much!! We actually have a bigger yard there than our current house, but it’s mostly trees. Which I’m perfectly fine with.
You have really gotten me excited about creating a YouTube channel! ?
That’s great! Lots of birdhouse ideas to share on your channel ???
Great idea!! ?
You automatically have 2 viewers lol!!
Yay!! ?
Congratulations and I can feel your excitement. The windows and natural light are wonderful. I will be following as you renovate! Happy for you~
Thank you so much!!! ❤️
Congrats Michelle, so exciting. I love the room that leads to the back deck, all those windows, that natural light, it will be beautiful on those lovely sunny days.
Thank you so much! Those windows are my favorite part of the entire home. ?
Congratulations on your new home! I know you will have so much fun making it “yours”! ?
Thank you so much!! I’m so excited to start putting my own stamp on it. ?
Holy cow, that’s a lot of house! Is that cedar panelling in the closet?
It is! Which means more cleaning! Haha!
Yes it is! I love the cedar closet. ?
I hear you on that…sometimes I look at places that are a little bigger than I need (but which the kitties would love!) and then I’m like “I love that I can clean a smaller place in a few hours!” LOL And cedar closets rock! Lucky you!
But the outside is brick! So, no painting the exterior, right? 🙂
Exactly! There’s a side porch that’s covered and the posts need to be repainted but that’s not too bad. 🙂
Whew! Hope you have fun on your new adventure!
Happy new home! It’s beautiful.
Wow! What a lovely house, Michelle! So much light, so much potential 🙂 and I love the floors and the fireplaces. You’re going to be busy…
Thank you so much! I can’t wait to get officially moved in. ?
Congratulations! It’s beautiful! You are going to have fun!
Thank you so much!! I’m so excited!
Oh my goodness! I love it so much! This home has so many positive points. I think my favorite is the sitting area on the second floor. I like the idea of adding comfy chairs. And a small table, so you have somewhere to set your warm drink on a cold day. It will be so cozy. I noticed that the people left you a small bookshelf too. I hope it is in good shape because I know you will get some use out of it. And I do like the idea of removing the tub from your daughter’s bathroom. Every house we have lived in, there has been
a big garden tub, that I never use. Congratulations and thank you for taking us on this lovely tour. I am so happy for you!
Really beautiful! Congratulations
Thank you so much!!
So excited for you. Congratulations Michelle. It is a beautiful home and so huge you will have so much fun putting all your touches in it. Can’t wait to follow you on this new adventure.

Wow! That is a gorgeous home, Michelle. 🙂 I really like the colonial style . . . very majestic. Congratulations on the new adobe!
Thank you so much! I always dreamed of living in an old farmhouse, but this house just swept me off my feet! 😀
I can see why, Michelle. It’s gorgeous. 🙂
Looks lovely! I love the wood floors and natural light. I might use the space at the top of the stairs as my home office.
Congratulations!! That is amazing!! Enjoy your new home! God Bless!
Thank you so much! 🙂
So funny I would see this post today as I was just thinking about you and wondering how it was going with the new house.
It is beautiful! I love all that natural light! The kitchen and family room would have sold me too but the fireplace! Wow!
It’s funny you went from renovating your old house and how you have a new house you are renovating too. You guys are much more adventureous than my husband and I!
Anyhow, I love the house. It really is beautiful. All your crafts will look nice inside it!
Perfect timing! 🙂 I found that funny, too! We don’t mind small projects, but I’m not ready to do any more bathroom or kitchen renovations. I’ll just stick to painting and other small remodels for now! haha!
Thank you so much! We have to get the fireplace serviced because the lady that was living there before said she never used it so she has no idea if it works or not. I hope it does! 🙂
I hope it does too!
Wow! How exciting! Best of luck ❤️xx
Thank you so much!!
Congratulations! It looks like just a wonderful house! I wish you much happiness there 🙂

Congratulations to your new home. It is stunning ?. I think your living room is as big as our whole house ? UK houses are tiny ?♀️?
Thank you so much! LOL! Our current house is very tiny, too, so this is a huge change for me! It’s going to take some getting used to for sure. 🙂
You will love it. So much opportunity to get creative and you deserve it ♥️?♀️?
Congratulations Michelle! What a lovely purchase. I know that you will be having lots of fun with all of your nifty smarts! ??

Huge congrats Michelle!! The new place looks lovely and I can’t wait to see what you do with it. I would have killed for my own bathroom as a teenager, your daughter is so lucky!!
Thank you so much! Me, too! I had to share with my brother – eeewww. LOL! 😀
I had to share with not one, but two brothers!! ??
Congratulations Michelle! This is so exciting! Looks spacious and I can’t wait to see how you’ll decorate!
Thank you so much! I’m so excited to get moved in! 🙂
Words can’t express how excited I am for you, Michelle! This home really is breathtakingly beautiful. Most of all, I know you’re going to have this home looking like a dream. Your design skills are amazing. It’s going to be fun watching the process of how you continue to fix it up.
I can see why the kitchen and family room sold you. Those windows are gorgeous and everything is so spacious. Oh! And I LOVE how excited you are about storage! AMEN! People underestimate how a lack of storage affects everything.
Ridiculously happy for you. I pray God’s continued blessings upon you and your family. I trust that the best is yet to come! I know you’re excited to move in and I know that it’s going to exceed your expectations when you do.
Lots of love to you, Michelle! Congratulations! God is good! ♥
Thank you so much for your sweet words! I’m so excited to get in there and put my touch on it!
Aren’t those windows amazing? My mom said “they’re a lot to clean”, but just being able to have all that natural light is well worth it! And I know exactly what you mean about lack of storage. Even if you don’t have a lot of stuff, not having storage space can lead to clutter which is so overwhelming!
Thank you again for your much-needed prayers! Lots of love going your way!
What a beautiful and big home! So much space, very nice! Praying you never have another tree fall on the house. Very cool home, congratulations! Blessings!
Thank you so much! I love it! And thank you for that prayer – I pray that, too!! 😀
So cozy & gorgeous!! You must be excited : ) I just finished painting the dining room with a chair rail — the bottom is chocolate, white on top with one accent wall!! Best wishes : )
Thank you! I am so ready to move in and get settled! 😀 I bet your dining room is gorgeous! I want to do a chair rail in our dining room. The accent wall is a great idea!
What a beautiful home and so much room!!!! I can’t wait to see what you do to it.
Thank you so much! I can’t wait to get moved in and fix it up. 🙂
Aw, omg! Congratulations on your new home! I can’t wait to buy home as a fixer upper! Can’t wait to see more updates, Michelle! xx
Thank you so much! I hope you get to buy a fixer-upper home soon. They’re so much fun!
Your new home is beautiful. Congratulations!
Thank you so much!!
Wow!!!! Just wow!! It’s absolutely stunning!!
I already read the post about the tree deal so I hope things are coming together quickly and smoothly! Can’t wait to see more pics when you get settled in! So excited for you!!
Thank you! I love it! Now just to get in there. haha!
We finally had a contractor come out and unfortunately he won’t be able to start work for 3-4 months because he’s so backed up. But at least it’s a start. 🙂
Oh wow so even the roof will wait that long?!
He said he may possible be able to get the roof and exterior work done sooner, but didn’t give us an exact date yet. Fingers crossed!
Sure hope so!!
I am catching up reading backwards. 🙂 I love old homes – mine is almost 100! God Bless and wishing you so much love and beautiful memories in your new home. xoxo
That’s awesome! I love old homes, too. They just have so much character and I’m sure a million stories to tell. Thank you!!
