Ways to Make Money With Your Car

Reminder: Using your car to make money will add extra miles to your car’s odometer along with some extra wear and tear. When you total up your earnings, be sure to include that information in your records. Also, you can deduct your mileage on taxes if you are using your car for work.

Deliver Groceries

You can sign up with Instacart to be a grocery shopper and deliver groceries.

With Instacart you have two options: full-service shopper and in-store shopper.

As a full-service shopper, you will shop groceries on-demand, meaning you accept the job, do the shopping, and deliver the groceries. As a full-service shopper, you are considered an independent contractor, so you get to choose the hours that work best for you. The amount you earn depends on the number and type of items, driving distance, and shopping and delivery effort. You are allowed to keep 100% of customer tips.

As an in-store shopper, you’re only shopping in the store. You shop for all the items in an order and earn an hourly wage. Shifts are scheduled based on availability and you usually work up to 29 hours a week.

Deliver Food

Uber-Eats offers flexible food delivery options and delivers in just about every state in the US. (Check the location page to see if they are in your area.) With Uber-Eats, you are an independent contractor who picks up and drops off food orders to customers.

Drivers are paid a pick-up fee and a drop-off fee as well as payment for distance traveled. After accounting for vehicle expenses, you can make up to $12 an hour delivering food.

If you’re interested in delivering food as a way to make money with your car, but don’t want to use Uber-Eats, also check out DoorDash and/or Postmates. DoorDash is one of the fastest-growing delivery services out there.

DoorDash pays anywhere from $2-$10 or more depending on the estimated time and distance. You also have the opportunity for fun promotions plus keep 100% of customer tips.

Deliver for Amazon

Amazon has a delivery program called Amazon Flex that allows you to delivery Amazon packages. To work for Amazon Flex, you’ll have to download the app and set up an account. You’ll then search for and choose delivery blocks in your area. Finally, you’ll head to your designated Amazon location to pick up the packages and deliver them to their proper addresses.

Check a list of cities to see if Amazon Flex is available in your area.

You can make up to $25 an hour delivering for Amazon Flex. Earnings depend on your location, time delivering, tips received, plus a few other factors. You keep 100% of customer tips, if the option is available.

Drive for Ridesharing Apps

If you are a people person and are comfortable with driving people around, consider driving for ridesharing apps. This is honestly one of the best ways to make money with your car, even though I personally wouldn’t consider doing it.

There are a lot of ridesharing apps available, but the most well-known are Uber and Lyft. You can make up to $12 an hour driving people to their desired destinations. Of course, how much you get paid is determined by how often you choose to work, where and when you drive. City drivers tend to earn much more than rural drivers.

Become a Mobile Mechanic

If you’re knowledgeable at working on cars, this could be a great side gig for you.

Instead of running an actual auto-body shop, YourMechanic is a company that sends a specialist to a customer’s location when their car needs to be serviced. They offer oil changes, battery replacements, brake pad replacements, and so much more.

YourMechanic offers flexible opportunities for those who want to work in the automotive service industry. The company schedules all the appointments, orders parts, and handles invoicing and customer support. You set your own hours through their app and the company schedules service calls for you within your availability. All you need to do is show up to assist the customer and get paid between $40-$50 an hour.

Place Ads on Your Car

This is such an easy way to make a lot of money each month, especially if you drive your car a lot in high traffic areas.

FreeCarMedia.com and Wrapify.com are just two of many companies that will pay you to place ads on your car. If you don’t want your entire car wrapped, there may be other options, such as rear window decals. However, full car wraps will make you more money, sometimes up to $400 a month!

You do have to have a clean driving record, be over 18 years old, and have a background check and credit check.

Haul Stuff

If you own a truck and can lift heavy items, register with Task Rabbit and haul people’s stuff for them for a fee. With Task Rabbit, you choose how, when, and where you want to work. And you don’t have to just haul stuff – you can offer whatever services you have in over 50 categories.

Also, you get to set your own rates and keep 100% of what you charge plus any tips. Task Rabbit has their own secure payment system that you use to accept payments. They connect you with clients in your area.

Rent Out Your RV

Were you one of those people that purchased an RV a few years ago with plans to use it way more often than you actually do? If so, consider renting it out to make some extra money.

You can list your RV on RVshare for free and earn up to $40,000 a year. You set your own rental prices and how many nights a renter can rent out your RV.

Find out how much money you can make by renting out your RV here.
