October is an odd month when it comes to shopping deals, however, there are still some great buys out there if you look hard enough. Check out this extensive list of the best things to buy in October.
When it comes to shopping, October is stuck in the middle of back-to-school deals and the holiday shopping season. Plus, the Coronavirus threw everything off this year. Especially with Amazon, which is holding its Prime Day event four months later than usual (October 13-14).
However, there are still some good deals to be had this month, even without major sales events. Be on the look out for deep discounts on summer items.
I’ve put together an extensive list of the best things to buy in October to help you save money this month.

Amazon Prime Day Deals: Amazon struggled this year to keep up with pandemic orders. They moved their Prime Day Event to October 13 – 14 instead. You can expect to see deals on technology, kitchen equipment, and a lot of other items as well.
Double-check to make sure you’re getting a good deal with the camelcamelcamel price tracker tool while shopping on Amazon.

Columbus Day Deals: Columbus Day is October 12 and most department stores host sales leading up to the holiday. Keep an eye out for Macy’s and Kohl’s because they have been known to have the best deals in the past.
Denim: Retailers are desperate to get back-to-school jeans off their shelves to make room for the winter trends that will be hitting stores soon. Be sure to keep an eye out for denim discounts this month. Belk has jeans for women, men, and junior sizes starting at just $15!
Summer Items: More than likely this is the last month you’ll be seeing patio furniture, yard tools, and summer-themed décor in stores. Get ready for next summer for less this month!
Air Conditioners: A lot of stores end up with leftover air conditioners after the summer months. Now is a great time to buy one for next year.
Cars: New car models are already hitting the car lots so they’re desperate to get last year’s models out of the way. On top of sales, they may offer other incentives such as no down payment. Do your research and shop around.
Here’s a tip from a car salesman: Shop at the end of the week or end of the month to get the best deals and incentives. They have goals they have to meet every month. If they aren’t hitting their goal they’ll be more than willing to work out a deal with you.
Vacations: Vacations may look a little different this year with the pandemic. But, October is the best month to purchase plane tickets, bus tickets, and cruises.
Camping Gear: Camping gear will be on sale this month. Expect to find deep discounts on tents, sleeping bags, and other camping equipment. Check Dick Sporting Goods for the best deals.
Halloween Costumes & Décor: Most stores overstock what they actually need for Halloween. With the pandemic this year and trick-or-treating not recommended, more than likely there are going to be some extremely discounted Halloween deals closer to the end of the month. Check department stores such as Walmart and Target for the best deals.
Seasonal Produce: Fruits to look for this month include apples, cranberries, grapes, honeydew melon, oranges, and pears. Vegetables this month include lettuce, leeks, yams, sweet potatoes, spinach, squash, beets, cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli. And don’t forget the pumpkins!

As a drama teacher and director, I always loved shopping for costumes the day after Halloween. But this year I'll probably be doing it earlier. Not that I still teach or direct, but I do have grandchildren. ;)
That's a great way to save on costumes for class. ?

I do love a bargain, and these sound fab. I'm curious what'll be on for Amazon Prime Day(s) this year. Sadly my Prime month expires two days prior so I don't know whether to renew it or not to see what they have on offer ?
Such a hard decision! ? I've tried to find sneak peeks but I'm only seeing things about technology. Guess they're hiding it this year.
So true, it is an odd shopping year. I’ve noticed stores are trying to sell last years winter clothes, at deep discounts, while also selling this year’s winter fashions.
That's weird. I would definitely choose the discounted clothes over the new. ?
Me too!
