Starfish Candlesticks (Dollar Tree DIY)
Here’s a fun and frugal summer project for you that’s also quick and easy! I used Dollar Tree candlesticks and some fabric to make these cute summer-themed starfish candlesticks!
It’s so hard to believe it’s already summer!
But the temperatures have sure proved it. The heat and humidity have really settled in here in Virginia.
Which means it’s time to pull out the summer tote and start decorating!
I’m teaming up with some amazing bloggers this month for some summer-themed DIY inspiration. A huge thanks to Terrie from Decorate and More with Tip for hosting these fun blog hops every month.
If you’re here from Danya over at A Vintage Flare Farmhouse, welcome!
Be sure to see the rest of the summer DIY inspiration at the bottom of my post.

These starfish candlesticks are super easy to make. They only took me about 15 minutes to make. And the best part is that I had everything I already needed so I didn’t spend any money!
What you need:
- 8″ tall glass candlesticks from Dollar Tree
- Fabric scraps
- Wide ribbon
- Starfish (similar here)
- Hot glue gun and glue
What you do:
Step 1
The first thing you are going to do is cut the fabric into squares. I measured the fabric the length I wanted, then measured around the candlestick itself. I think the measurements both ways were a little over 7 inches.
After the fabric is cut to the size you want, put a line of hot glue down one side of the fabric and glue it to the candlestick. Let it dry for a few seconds, then wrap the fabric around the candlestick. Pull gently to get the fabric tightly.
After I glued the fabric on I wished I had ironed it first. But honestly I just didn’t want to take that extra step because I was being lazy. Crafter problems…
Step 2
The next step is entirely optional. I wanted to hide the top of the fabric, so I chose to cover it up with a piece of wide ribbon. I just wrapped it around and glued it the same way I did the fabric.
Step 3
The final step is to glue on the starfish. I just centered mine the best I could and hot glued it on.
I honestly cannot remember where I bought this starfish. I’m thinking it was either A.C. Moore or Michael’s.
That’s it! I promised you it was quick and easy!
I loved how they turned out!
What do you think? If you make some I’d love to see them! Tag me on Instagram or share them with me on Facebook.

Thank you!! Haha! I’m glad I’m not the only one! 😀
Thank you for these posts. It’s so nice to see regular topics and not current events which are so overwhelming and depressing right now. I need these light posts … you have no idea
You’re welcome! I know exactly what you mean. I’m trying my hardest to stay away from all that mess. 🙂
I’m trying too but our governor keeps changing the rules and it’s all my neighbors and family seem to talk about lately. As for the other mess — I can’t even begin to handle the craziness with some of that.
Wonderful creative work of thr star fish Michelle !! ❤
Thank you so much!
Michelle, this is such a cute idea! You are a creative crafter. Have a wonderful day!

This is adorable Michelle! I love how affordable the project is!

Those Dollar Tree candles are good for so many crafts, aren’t they? These are just perfect, and would fit right in with my coastal style here in Florida! Great job!
I agree! I used to not like them until I started using them in different ways. Thank you so much!
I adore the turquoise color paired with the grey and white! It’s such a refreshing and light combination! I’d say this is a perfect summer DIY, my friend.
Your starfish were a great find! Do you just pick things up along the way if you see something you love? Heaven knows your brilliant creative mind will always come up with the perfect project for it.
I chuckled when you said that you were too lazy to iron the fabric, followed by “crafters problems.” ? Too cute! We’ll just blame it on the heat, Michelle. That’s all it is! Haha.
Another amazing design from you. But that’s no surprise at all! ♥
Thank you! Yes, I do randomly pick up things I love whenever I’m out. But only if they’re cheap and I know for sure I’ll use it one day! lol!
Haha! Yes! Blaming it on the heat sounds perfect! It’s already hot enough without having to add ironing to the mix! 😀
You’re so sweet! Thank you! I hope you have a wonderful weekend! My mom and I are going to Meadows of Dan tomorrow so you know I’m excited! 🙂
These look so easy to make, yet the end result is really effective! Beachy and summery.
Thank you so much! 🙂

Great idea. I love the dollar store. I’m amazed how many nice things only cost one dollar! I’ve never thought to use those candles for anything. You’ve inspired me!
Thank you so much! I’m glad this inspired you to use the candles. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
I like these!
Thank you!
Michelle, those tall candles from Dollar Tree are awesome. I always keep some on hand. Very cute project for summer decorations.
Thank you so much! They are great for different projects.
They turned out great! I know you’re missing the beach. ?
Thank yous so much! I am. I’d love to be able to go back soon, but I’d rather stay safe first. 🙂
We are lucky and thank god everyday for what we have. We are 20 minutes to our favorite beach which is a state park and only open to 50% capacity. We were out in the Atlantic yesterday after 2 weeks of being cooped up in the house. The recharge is REAL! 🙂
