Repurposed Flower Pot Using Napkins

Turning old items you already have into something new is a fun way to save money on “new” decor! And there’s nothing better than a repurposed flower pot to give your outdoor decor a fresh new look.

A few years ago, I bought a flower pot at Walmart to use in an outdoor project. My plan was to use the pot as a lamp for the little table on my back porch.

I put rocks in the pot and added a solar light and that was it. It turned out really cute and I loved the way it lit up at night.

However, after a few years the pot became stained and gross and the solar light no longer works. I’m sure I can replace the battery and it’ll be fine, but I also need a new place to put it since the porch is shaded now.

So, I decided to give the old dingy flower pot a new and updated look. And now I love my new repurposed flower pot!

What you need:

• Decorative napkins
• Mod Podge
• Spray paint (I used white and black)
• Tape
• Sponge brush
• Old flower pot

What you do:

Step 1

The first thing you want to do is clean your flower pot the best you can. I gave mine a good scrubbing, but no matter what the stains would still not come off.

Step 2

After your flower pot is all clean and completely dry, tape off the top and bottom sections. You can skip this part if you want your repurposed flower pot to be all one color.

Spray paint the middle part of the flower pot and sit aside to dry. Make sure it dries completely, then remove the tape.

Step 3

Next, cover the middle part of the flower pot with tape so you can paint the top and the bottom. Spray paint the two parts and let dry completely. After the paint is completely dry, remove the tape.

Make sure to paint the inside, too. You don’t have to paint the entire inside, but at least paint around the top.

Step 4

Now comes the fun part! Grab your Mod Podge, napkins, sponge brush, and a paper plate. (I like to pour my Mod Podge out on a paper plate to make it easier to put on the brush.) I love working with this stuff because it’s so easy and can be used for so many projects.

The first thing you want to do is separate your napkins. You only want to use the top layer.

Next, cut your napkins to the size of the middle of your flower pot. Then, put a generous amount of Mod Podge on the flower pot and place the napkin on top; smooth out any wrinkles and bubbles.

Keep in mind that the napkins are straight and the flower pot is round. It’s better to cut the napkins into smaller pieces rather than try to wrap the whole thing around the flower pot.

Do this all the way around the flower pot and let dry completely.

After the Mod Podge is completely dry, add another generous layer all over the entire middle section where the napkins are.

Step 5

After your repurposed flower pot is completely dry, you can add a plant, or decorate it anyway you wish. For mine, I chose to add rocks and candles for a more romantic look.

I didn’t want to fill the entire flower pot with rocks because I didn’t have enough. Instead, I placed a Tupperware bowl inside the flower pot, then poured the rocks on top.

Next, I placed candles on top of the rocks.

My repurposed flower pot looks so pretty on my back porch! I’m so happy with how it turned out.

It even looks cute beside my tractor planter!
