While your bedroom isn’t typically known for using up a lot of energy, there are still ways you can save energy – and money – in this room. Read this quick guide to see the easy ways of saving money in your bedroom!
Certain rooms in your home are known for using a lot of energy, but the bedroom isn’t typically one of them. There are not a lot of energy-wasting appliances in the bedroom and most of your time in the bedroom is spent sleeping with the lights off.
However, there are still ways that you can save money in your bedroom. Cutting bad habits such as leaving the television on all night is just one example.
Read on to find out how you can start saving money in your bedroom.
Saving Money in Your Bedroom
Use LED bulbs: Switching from traditional light bulbs to LED bulbs will help save money on energy as well as long-term savings. LED light bulbs last 25 times as long and they use 25-80% less energy.
Unplug: Appliances that are not in use can be unplugged to save energy. Vampire energy, also called standby power, costs consumers more than $3 billion a year! (source) Plug appliances into a power strip and turn it off when they’re not in use to make it easier.
Close the closet: Leaving the closet doors open wastes energy because it’s inviting the air conditioning inside. Close the door and let the cool air stay in the bedroom with you.
Use a rug: If you have hardwood floors, cover them with an area rug to provide insulation for your bedroom.
Check your windows: Make sure to check your windows for any gaps or leaks. Also, keep your blinds or curtains closed during the day in the warmer months to keep cool air in and hot sunlight out. Open them during the colder months to let the sunshine naturally warm the room.
Paint the walls: If your bedroom walls are a dark color, consider painting them a lighter color. The lighter color the walls are, the better they reflect light, therefore you don’t have to turn on the lights during the day.
Install a programmable thermostat: Using a programmable thermostat saves around 10% each year on heating and cooling cost. Set your thermostat to no lower than 78 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer and no higher than 68 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter. Changing the way you dress according to the temperature will keep these temperatures at a comfortable – and affordable – level.
Buy secondhand: Look for used nightstands and dressers on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or family and friends for cheap or free. If they’re not your style, give them a coat of paint and change the hardware.
Save on sheets: Stock up on sheet sets and blankets during white sales at the beginning of the year. You really only need 2 sets of sheets anyway. When you change your sheets, put the other set on right away, then wash the first set, fold, and put it away.
What would you add to my list of ways for saving money in your bedroom? Do you already do some of these?

Thank you for noting that two sets of sheets is plenty. Somehow so often we get the message that more of everything is better. We forget that more of everything is not necessarily better or necessary! Thanks for the reminder.
You're welcome! The world wants us to believe that more is better. I think they think everyone lives in mansions and has tons of room to store all the extras. lol! I agree that more isn't always better or necessary. Thank you!

I actually have only 2 sets of sheets, I got a new matress last year and somehow I wound up with 2 sets, and you're right I find that I don't need more. So right about all of these, I used to have a TV in my bedroom and that's exactly what I used to do, it played all night. Thanks Michelle another great post xoxo
Thank you so much! I still have a tv in my bedroom but it's rarely ever on unless I'm folding the laundry. I never bother to turn it on at night anymore. And I don't even miss it! :D

You wrote here "Use LED bulbs" I was reading about led bulbs. They are dangerous.Radiation from bulbs damages the human body. You may like their sharp light, but they are unpleasant to the eyes and the light from them is unnatural. I don't use them. My health is more important to me.
Thank you for sharing that information. I have never heard that before!
