{Jump to Recipe}Since we’ve been working on cleaning our bedrooms and getting organized I thought it would be fun to create a hanging sachet for the closet. After all, I want my closet to smell nice like the rest of my house!
Not only does this hanging sachet smell amazing; it’s also very easy to make since there’s no sewing involved.
This sachet is very similar to my no sew lavender drawer sachet. The only differences are the size, the essential oil used, and the ribbon for hanging.

Before I get started I have to brag on this essential oil. I purchased the spring set last year from Plant Therapy, which comes with 3 oils. Fresh Meadow is my favorite out of all of them, although the other 2 smell good, too. I don’t like them so much in my diffuser, but I love using them in recipes!
Fresh Meadow is an essential oil blend and smells exactly like a spring breeze. You can smell the citrus and sweet scents along with just a hint of spice. I love it! It’s what spring smells like to me.
And if you’re interested in purchasing some, here’s a link to get $10 off your first purchase of $25 or more. They always offer free shipping!! Also, they have an amazing rewards program which makes it easy to earn points towards free products. And you get a free full-size bottle of oil for your birthday! How great is that?
Okay, sorry about that. I just love Plant Therapy and I wanted to share them with you.
Now back to the reason you’re really here – the hanging sachet instructions.
In a small bowl or measuring cup, mix the Epsom salt and rice until combined. Add 18-20 drops of the essential oil (or oils) and stir until combined. Set aside.
(Epsom salt soaks up the essential oil and helps the scent last longer.)
Using a rotary tool or scissors, cut the fabric into a 5″ x 10″ rectangle.
Next, iron the fabric to get all the wrinkles out so that it’s easier to work with.
Fold the fabric in half longways with the right side in and iron the edge to make a crease.
Now lay the hem tape along the edges of the fabric, but don’t go all the way to the end. Fold the top half over and iron. Follow the instructions on the hem tape for ironing. Let it cool for a few seconds.
Turn the sachet right side out and add the essential oil mixture. Don’t fill it completely full or you will have a really hard time closing the sachet. I had enough mixture leftover to make a smaller hanging sachet for my car, which I’ll share with you in a later post.
Next, fold the top edges of the fabric down towards the inside of the hanging sachet and iron so they stay creased, then insert the ribbon (mine was about 10″ long). Lay the hem tape over the ribbon and iron to close.
I placed the ribbon on top of the hem tape to begin with but it didn’t work. The ribbon kept coming out. However, when I put the hem tape over the ribbon it held.
That’s it! Then you just hang the sachet in your closet for a fresh scent!
The scent in the drawer sachet lasted about 3 months, so I imagine this will last just as long.
Where will you hang your hanging sachet? I hung mine in my husband’s closet, but I’ll be making more for all the closets.
If you make a hanging sachet for your closet, I’d love to see it!

Michelle, what a great idea and so easy. Thank you for the DIY. Happy Wednesday!
Thank you so much! I love an easy project. Happy Wednesday to you as well!
An idea that could be good for other rooms, too. Now that we are all at home so much, some rooms are starting to get a little funky.
I agree! And with home renovations going on in my house, I feel like I'm constantly cleaning and can't catch up! :D
So cute! This could be a great idea also for me that I’m very bad at diy ?
Thank you! It's really easy to make! Since I don't sew I love using hem tape! :D
Great idea and I love that it's no sew!!
Thank you! I can't sew so hem tape is my best friend in projects like these! :D
That's what I use too!
Great idea. Thanks. Hope to make a few this week.
Thank you! They're so easy to make, which I why I love them even more. :D
Thanks for this great idea! I hope to make some for our closets.
I hope you get to make some! They're easy to make! :)
This is adorable! I love the fabric and the fact that it is NO SEW, I can't sew a lick! :-)
Thank you!! I can't sew either, which is why hem tape is my best friend! :D
What a fun and functional project, Michelle! That essential oil sounds amazing. I'll have to check it out! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I love the way that oil smells. It's almost like a fresh clean scent! :)
I love this idea. I'm always looking for small, simple items with a touch of handmade charm that work well as gifts - teachers, Mother's day, etc. Because I cannot always spend a lot of money on each person, but I still want to make them feel special and thought of! Perhaps these could even be sent in the mail!
This would work really well as gifts! They would be great for a house warming gift, too. And Mother's Day is coming right up! :) I have mailed a drawer sachet. I wrap them in tissue paper and plastic so nothing happens to it along the way. :)
Awesome! And where do you buy Epsom salts?
You can find them at some grocery stores. Walmart has them and Target.
Super cute idea, Michelle! Easy to follow instructions too!
Thank you so much!!
