Since we’ve been working on cleaning our bedrooms and getting organized I thought it would be fun to create a hanging sachet for the closet. After all, I want my closet to smell nice like the rest of my house!

Not only does this hanging sachet smell amazing; it’s also very easy to make since there’s no sewing involved.

This sachet is very similar to my no sew lavender drawer sachet. The only differences are the size, the essential oil used, and the ribbon for hanging.

What you need:

Before I get started I have to brag on this essential oil. I purchased the spring set last year from Plant Therapy, which comes with 3 oils. Fresh Meadow is my favorite out of all of them, although the other 2 smell good, too. I don’t like them so much in my diffuser, but I love using them in recipes!

Fresh Meadow is an essential oil blend and smells exactly like a spring breeze. You can smell the citrus and sweet scents along with just a hint of spice. I love it! It’s what spring smells like to me.

And if you’re interested in purchasing some, here’s a link to get $10 off your first purchase of $25 or more. They always offer free shipping!! Also, they have an amazing rewards program which makes it easy to earn points towards free products. And you get a free full-size bottle of oil for your birthday! How great is that?

Okay, sorry about that. I just love Plant Therapy and I wanted to share them with you.

Now back to the reason you’re really here – the hanging sachet instructions.

What you do:

Step 1

In a small bowl or measuring cup, mix the Epsom salt and rice until combined. Add 18-20 drops of the essential oil (or oils) and stir until combined. Set aside.

(Epsom salt soaks up the essential oil and helps the scent last longer.)

Add Epsom salt
Add rice
Add essential oil
Stir until combined

Step 2

Using a rotary tool or scissors, cut the fabric into a 5″ x 10″ rectangle.

Step 3

Next, iron the fabric to get all the wrinkles out so that it’s easier to work with.

Step 4

Fold the fabric in half longways with the right side in and iron the edge to make a crease.

Step 5

Now lay the hem tape along the edges of the fabric, but don’t go all the way to the end. Fold the top half over and iron. Follow the instructions on the hem tape for ironing. Let it cool for a few seconds.

Step 6

Turn the sachet right side out and add the essential oil mixture. Don’t fill it completely full or you will have a really hard time closing the sachet. I had enough mixture leftover to make a smaller hanging sachet for my car, which I’ll share with you in a later post.

Step 7

Next, fold the top edges of the fabric down towards the inside of the hanging sachet and iron so they stay creased, then insert the ribbon (mine was about 10″ long). Lay the hem tape over the ribbon and iron to close.

I placed the ribbon on top of the hem tape to begin with but it didn’t work. The ribbon kept coming out. However, when I put the hem tape over the ribbon it held.

That’s it! Then you just hang the sachet in your closet for a fresh scent!

The scent in the drawer sachet lasted about 3 months, so I imagine this will last just as long.

Where will you hang your hanging sachet? I hung mine in my husband’s closet, but I’ll be making more for all the closets.

If you make a hanging sachet for your closet, I’d love to see it!

Using Hem tape is such a brilliant idea.
I will try making these sachets for the closet in my laundry room where I have small place to hide away the dry clothes before they are ironed.
And it needs no sowing is a helpful diy.

    Thanks

    • I love using hem tape because I can't sew at all. They would be great for your laundry room closet! I'd love to see them if you get to make them. Thank you for reading!

    • They are so easy to make! I wanted fresh spring scents, too, and the oil I used smells just like Spring. :) Then in the fall I'll make more with fall scents. :)

  • Hanging sachet in your closet is such a great idea, I used to buy them, ready made :) regularly, but I haven't in a long while and I don't know why I stopped. Thank you for this post and reminder for the sachet, I may even try to do it myself this looks so easy. And That fresh meadow sounds like a wonderful scent.

    • They are pretty easy to make as long as you have the tape. But if you know how to sew then you can do it that way, too. :) I hope you get to make one for your closet!

  • This is a great idea, and I love the idea of making one for the car! I'm here by way of Waste Not Wednesday, but I saw the thumbnail at TTA, too! Yay!!!

    • Thank you so much! They are so easy to make and easy to adjust to the size you need. Thank you for vising!!
