When Spring arrives and the weather starts warming up, I always want to clean my house. I like to wait until it’s warm enough to leave the windows open so everything can air out.
Right now my house is quite a mess with the bathroom renovation going on. (A little update – we finally got all the walls up after a lot of hard work! Now they need sanding and painting.)
Giving your bedroom a quick once over weekly will keep it pretty clean, but you still want to give it a deep clean every once in a while. If you have allergies or lots of pets, you may want to deep clean your bedroom seasonally.
So how do you deep clean the bedroom? Well, I’m so glad you asked!

Breathing in dust particles and unclean air isn’t healthy for anyone. What is dust? “Two-thirds of the dust in your house comes from outside, as dirt tracked in on your feet and airborne particles like pollen and soot. The rest is mostly carpet fluff, clothes fibers, and pet hair.” (Science Focus Magazine)
It’s estimated that people who make their beds every morning are 19% more likely to get a good night’s sleep on a regular basis.
Also, 75% of people surveyed by the National Sleep Foundation said that they feel more comfortable and get a better night’s rest when they have clean sheets.
A 2010 study showed that “women who described their living spaces as “cluttered” or full of “unfinished projects” were more likely to be depressed and fatigued than women who described their homes as “restful” and “restorative.” The researchers also found that women with cluttered homes expressed higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol.” (Psychology Today)
This is so true for me! When my home is cluttered I cannot concentrate, I am stressed out, and I feel so overwhelmed!
In 2011, researchers at Princeton University found that clutter can actually make it more difficult to focus on a particular task. Specifically, they found that the visual cortex can be overwhelmed by task-irrelevant objects, making it harder to allocate attention and complete tasks efficiently.

Ugh yes, I definitely need to deep clean my room! I tend to take things in manageable chunks these days with smaller tasks, but things have just been building up lately. This serves as excellent inspiration and motivation to make it a priority for this weekend. Really good point on the bedside lamp too, definitely shouldn't forget that because you're sleeping so close to it and dust can collect anywhere and everywhere. And ooooh yes, fresh sheets are the best! Brilliant post ♥

I'm so glad you found this to be the motivation to deep clean your bedroom! I try to work in one space first, then work my way around the room. Otherwise, I get completely overwhelmed and don't feel like finishing the task. There's just something so amazing about fresh clean sheets! Thank you so much for reading! :)
Another absolutely brilliant post from you, Michelle! It's one of the reasons any chance I get to be online these days, I come to your blog first. Such great reads, always!
I could not stop shaking my head in agreement with you (and scientific research) about a cluttered home being a cluttered/overwhelmed mind. YES! I am with you on this... it's the same for me. Chaos externally for me usually always equals internal chaos. (sigh) There's something extra special about walking into your home and experiencing that *feeling* of home. Peace, tranquility and safety -- we need that in our lives!
Your ideas are perfect. It never ceases to amaze me how much dirt collects on the fan blades!! Thinking about how many times we've turned the fan on with all that mess circulating - yuck! Your tip of the pillowcase over the fan blade and then slide off is brilliant! I'll be using that trick ;)
Sending you all my love. Sure have missed being in touch! ?
Awww thank you so much! You're so sweet!
A cluttered home always makes me feel like I want to just leave. But, I know that when I come home it will still be a mess.
The funny part about the fan blades - I leave my fans on all summer and then when the weather starts getting cooler I turn them off. That's when I notice all the dust! Yikes! I think I need to start cleaning during the summer, too. :D
I've missed you! I hope you're doing well! Hugs and love!!!
Such great tips Michelle! I am one who definitely feels stressed out when things aren't neat and tidy. My girls are always leaving their toys on my night stand and in our master bedroom and it makes me crazy! I do most of the cleaning things, but need to work on decluttering my closet. Thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you! My daughter would do the same thing when she was little. Now that she turned 13 her mess is on her desk and in her room. Still driving me crazy! I'm happy you've been inspired!
Tidiness is not my cup of tea, but you're making it simple with great tips.
I'm so glad you found them helpful!
