Spring is in the air here! For a little while at least.
We’ve had lots of rain and now the sun is shining and it’s almost 60 degrees! This is my kind of weather!
This weather also gets me in the mood for Spring. I love all the beauty the Spring season brings with it. It’s like taking a breath of fresh air.
Since Spring is on my mind right now, I decided to go ahead and start making some Spring DIY’s.
My inspiration for today’s DIY farmhouse mason jar vase actually came from one of my favorite places on earth – Kirkland’s. They have these cute floral mason jar vases right now for $12.99. That’s not exactly expensive, but I didn’t want to pay that price for something I knew I could make for way less.
Actually, my farmhouse mason jar vase was free because I already had everything on hand.
Don’t miss these great Spring DIY’s:
Shabby Chic Lamp
Grapevine Wreath
Upcycled Mailbox Planter
The first thing you want to do is make sure your mason jar is clean. My mason jar came from Goodwill so I washed it really well before painting.
My preferred method of painting glass is spray paint, but that wasn’t happening since it was raining when I made this. Since I couldn’t use spray paint, the only other paint I had on hand was craft paint.
When painting with craft paint on glass, it’s best to scuff the glass up a little bit with sandpaper. Just go over the mason jar lightly with the sandpaper. This helps the paint stick to the glass a little better.
Since I used craft paint to paint the mason jar, I did two coats. Here’s what it looked like after one coat.
After the paint dries on the mason jar, add some jute twine around the top. I wrapped the twine around the top of the jar twice and then tied it into a bow at the front.
Next, just add the flowers to the farmhouse mason jar vase and you’re done!
The flowers I used were cattails from Dollar Tree. I didn’t have any lavender, but I thought these looked pretty close and I didn’t really want to make a trip for 2 bunches of lavender flowers.
It’s not exact, but I think it looks very similar to the vase from Kirkland’s.
I’m happy with the way it turned out and the flowers can be changed for any season or holiday.
What do you think? Will you be making your own farmhouse mason jar vase for spring?

Thank you so much!
Adorable! And I'll have to try lightly sanding my mason jars before painting them with craft paint; I could never figure out how to make that go on nicely, so I appreciate that tip in particular. :)
