Do you love the scents of fall, but can’t burn candles in your home? Or maybe you don’t want to use candles because of the chemicals and soot some leave behind?
There is something so comforting about lighting a candle on a cool, crisp fall day, but some of us can’t burn candles due to many different reasons.
So what do you do when you want that fall scent filling up your home?

Making a fall simmer pot is very easy to do. You might even have a lot of the ingredients to make this on hand! Just let the ingredients simmer on the stove top all day and your house will be guaranteed to smell like fall.
Add all of your ingredients to a pot of water and bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Allow to simmer uncovered as long as you like. Make sure to check the water so it doesn’t run out. Add more water as needed.
Reed diffusers are one of my favorite things to make because they are so simple. They can be added to every room in your home. Adding the right essential oils to your reed diffuser will make your home smell like fall.
To make the reed diffuser, pour oil into jars about 1″-2″ from the bottom. You do not need to add a lot of oil, just enough to flow up the skewers. Add 15-20 drops of your chosen essential oils and swirl the jar around a few times. Add the skewers, spacing them out a bit.
Tip: Flip the skewers after a day or so to keep the oil flowing and the scent longer lasting.
Stores often start putting out those cinnamon scented pine cones around this time of year. The smell of all that cinnamon in one confined area makes my eyes burn! An easy way to eliminate this problem is to make your own fall scented pine cones and adjust the scent to your preference.
If you grabbed the pine cones from your yard, you’ll want to clean them off a bit to get rid of any dirt and any tiny bugs that may be hiding inside. Just rinse them off in the sink for a minute and lay them on a foil-lined cookie sheet. Bake them on low heat (200 degrees Fahrenheit) for about an hour. Allow to cool.
After the pine cones have cooled, put them in a gallon-sized freezer bag and drop the essential oil all over the pine cones. Allow them to sit in the closed bag for a day to soak up the scent. Remove them and let dry completely before placing them in bowls around your home.
I promise you that all of these natural DIY’s will make your home smell like fall! Which one are you excited to try?

Michelle,
Thank you for this post. Such easy ways to make your home smell good. I really love the reed diffuser idea. They not only smell good but they look good too!
Thank you! The reed diffusers are my favorite, too because they add to your decor. ?
These are totally great ideas! I love the idea of making your own infuser!
Thank you so much! They're all so easy to make, too. :)
Thanks for sharing this ma'am. Great!.
You're very welcome! Thank you for reading! :D
Smiles. Always glad to. ?
Nice, easy way to make the scented candle! Have a great weekend! ?
Thank you so much! Have a great weekend! :D
I LOVE that these are natural! Such great ideas especially as we approach fall and the holidays!
Thank you so much! I'm trying to keep as many chemicals out of our home as possible. :)
What a wonderful idea as always Michelle. It would be nice to try something natural, then I have control over the ingredients, and know every thing I would be using----Thank you for this!!
Thank you! Yes, I agree. It's easy to control the scent, too. :)
Oh, I definitely need to give some of these a try. I love adding scents to my home, but I don't do it that often and I absolutely love fall scents. I'll have to see if I can forage some pine cones soon.
We have some already dropping off our biggest tree. I'm going to start saving some up for winter, too. :)
My house needs some pretty smells right now. Everything has been closed up for the summer with the air conditioning on all the time. I need to make the scented pine cones I have a ton from up north.
I know what you mean! We finally had a few cool days and I could open the windows, but then it goes right back to being hot. I hope you enjoy making these! :)
I love the smell of scented pine cones I find in the store but I never thought of making my own...what a cool idea! Another thing I think is fun to try is cooking a pot of mulled wine or cider. You use so many of the same spices but then have a fun beverage to serve your family and friends.
That's a great idea. I never thought of doing that! I'll have to try that, too, especially when it starts getting cold. Thanks for sharing!
