This amazing DIY psoriasis balm has seriously calmed my psoriasis and has even made some smaller patches disappear! Read on to find out how to make your own psoriasis balm.
When I was younger I was diagnosed with psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis.. The psoriasis was always way worse and would flair up when I was really stressed out. Several doctors looked at it, but always wanted to refer me to a dermatologist, which I did not have the money for at the time.
My most recent doctor gave me a prescription for a cream, which did nothing. I didn’t see wasting so much money on something that didn’t work so I stopped using it. Not to mention I had no idea what half of the ingredients in that stuff was!
A couple of years ago I found this small shop about 20 minutes from my house that sold natural products. The lady who owned and ran the place made all the products herself and was very knowledgeable. She made a product called Itch-Be-Gone in a soap and whipped lotion. She told me to try it and let her know how it worked.
I have to admit I was a tad skeptical because nothing else had worked. After about a month of using both the soap and the lotion I started noticing a huge change. I still had a little bit of redness, but the white scales (I know. Gross!) were starting to go away. About a year later one of the patches on my side completely vanished! I had found a miracle psoriasis cream and I needed to buy it all!!
But then she moved.
And she doesn’t sell online.
So….what to do.
I knew some of the ingredients she used, such as the essential oils, but the rest was not listed in her ingredients. I did a lot of research and finally came up with my own DIY Psoriasis Balm.
Note: This should not be used if you are pregnant.
Another note: This DIY psoriasis balm can be put on the scalp. Keep in mind that it’s rather oily so cover your head with a sleep cap if you put it on before bedtime. Then wash it out in the morning.
Shea Butter is extracted from the nuts of the sea tree. It’s a fatty oil that absorbs quickly into the skin as it melts at body temperature. Shea butter has moisturizing and healing properties as well as anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. These properties are known to reduce inflamed areas of the skin.
Vitamin E oil has antioxidant properties, which fights inflammation. It also a great moisturizer that prevents or treats dry, flaking skin. Because it moisturizes the skin, vitamin e oil offers temporary relief from itchiness.
Neem oil is the secret ingredient in my psoriasis balm. It’s rich in fatty acids that support healthy skin and has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties.
Neem oil is also used to help treat dandruff, eczema, acne and other skin conditions.
Lavender essential oil has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. Lavender oil helps cleanse your skin and reduces irritation and redness.
Tea Tree Essential Oil has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antiviral properties. Tea tree oil can help soothe and relive irritated skin as well as reduce swelling and redness.

1/3 cup Shea Butter
1 Tablespoon Neem Oil
1/4 teaspoon Vitamin E Oil
5 drops Lavender Essential Oil
5 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
A lot of my ingredients for my psoriasis balm come from different places. I provided links for you in the ingredients to similar items. I check to make sure my oils are 100% pure, but my favorite place to buy my essential oils is Plant Therapy. They have an excellent reputation and are very helpful and knowledgeable. Plus they always offer free shipping!

Put the shea butter and vitamin E oil in a double boiler. I use a glass measuring cup placed inside a pan of water so I can take it from the pan to the freezer and then to pour it without using up a bunch of bowls.
After placing the Shea Butter and Vitamin E Oil in the double boiler and melting them down, this is how you want it to look when it’s ready. It is clear and there are no butter chunks floating around in there. Remove from heat.
After the psoriasis balm is melted, place it in the freezer for just a few minutes. You want it to be opaque, but still runny. If it stays in the freezer too long it will get hard and you will have to melt it all over again.
Now that the psoriasis balm is somewhat opaque, quickly whisk in the Neem Oil. This stuff smells terrible!! But, it’s great for psoriasis. Also, whisk in the lavender and tea tree oils.
Pour your psoriasis balm into a small container and you’re done! Let it sit on the counter for a few hours to harden or if you’re impatient like me, pop it in the refrigerator for a little while.
I am now on my second batch of this DIY psoriasis balm – a little bit goes a long way! The biggest psoriasis patches are on my lower back and my chest and after using the first batch of my DIY psoriasis balm, the patch on my chest is almost cleared up! It’s just slightly red still, but it no longer itches or contains scales. Another plus – the patches are no longer painful!
I had smaller patches on my sides and on my neck. Notice I said “had”. After using this psoriasis balm they are completely gone!!
If you or someone you know is suffering from psoriasis or eczema and cannot find any relief, try looking into using a more natural approach. It just takes a little bit of research. One of my goals for this year is to start getting rid of more chemicals in my house and using more essential oils and natural cleaners.
Please feel free to use my DIY psoriasis balm recipe above. The only catch – you have to tell me if it works for you!

That is so awesome Michelle...good for you also in getting as many house hold cleaners with chemicals gone. I bet you'll feel much better for doing it.
Thank you! Yes I do! My daughter has asthma and it is much better than it used to be. She hasn't had an asthma attack in a very long time!
That is so good. It’s amazing how small changes can make big differences in our lives. For me I also made changes with my diet that helped me a lot.
Thanks a Lot for sharing this! I will tell my cousin about it ☺ is it ok to use it for kids too?
Thanks again!
Yes it should be fine. If you're worried just try a small amount first. I hope it helps! ?
I will for sure? all the ingredients are natural remedies, stay healthy Michelle?
Sounds wonderful! Thanks for sharing. Just an FYI, pregnant women shouldn’t use Neem.
Thank you for letting me know!
I'm so excited to try this Michelle, thank you!
You're welcome! I love it!!
Great Advice, happy that you have got better dear ??❤?
Thank you so much!
Particularly interesting! My boy gets Exsima. I love a natural remedy.
Thank you! Maybe something like this could help when it gets particularly bad. ?
That's cool. My wife uses the now brand for some of her vitamins.
I like that brand because it's cheaper but still great! :)
Michelle! What a really cool and creative way to take care of your skin! We have eczema here in our house and winter time is always the worst. My kids all had it when they were babies. Their cheeks would get so bright red and chapped in the winter. My girls seem to fair the worst. The boys both grew out of it by age 4. I had it mildly when I was younger and now I just have some pretty gnarly dry skin on my hands. It is probably still eczema but I have not had a major difficulty with it since I was younger. The ingredients you use sound like they would be excellent for skin!
Winter can definitely be hard on our skin. These ingredients are great for skin and the best part is that you can use the essential oils for other things, too!
My daughter uses a psoriasis Rx that costs $500 a bottle! Of course we did not pay anything close to that, thanks to insurance, but it's highly effective. I couldn't tell you what the ingredient deck is but it's certainly not natural. Maybe she will try this...I love your commitment to fewer-chemicals in 2019!
Wow! That's expensive! Maybe this will work. It will definitely save money. Thank you! ?
Michelle, this is awesome! My mom has psoriasis on her scalp along her hairline and it flares up a lot in winter. I’ll have to tell her about this! I’ve had eczema off and on my whole life. When I was a kid it was on my hands pretty bad, and the last patch I had was on my lower abdomen. Personally, I used CeraVe lotion after a derm recommended it and for me it cleared up within a week.
I have the same thing your mom has. I use Castile liquid soap with tea tree oil already added in. I use it in place of shampoo, but not every day. It has really helped! Maybe she could try that. I'm glad the lotion works for you!
Oh, thanks, I’ll tell her! ?
You're welcome!

Very Nice! With those ingredients, this balm should be good for all sorts of skin conditions or inflammations. Good for you for doing the research and addressing the problem.
All the Best,
Gwen
Thank you! Yes, you're right! :)
