How to host a Superbowl party on the cheap

Consider a potluck

Ask guests to bring their favorite dish or favorite football foods to your frugal Superbowl party. If you send out invites online, ask people to RSVP with the dish they are bringing to avoid having the same dishes at the party. Serve the dishes buffet-style so all the food is gathered in one place.

Fix cheap recipes

Fix cheap recipes that make a lot of food, such as chili or soup. Any leftovers can be saved and used for lunch the next day. Finger sandwiches are also a great idea for a frugal Superbowl party.

Prepare your own side items

Vegetable trays and meat and cheese trays may save you time, but they are pricey. Buy fresh produce and chop your own vegetables to create your own tray. Do the same to create your own meat and cheese tray as well.

Buy generic chips and snacks

Buying brand name can get expensive, even if they are on sale. Buying generic saves money and if you pour the snacks into bowls your guests will never know the difference.

Have a friend co-host

Asking a friend to help you out with the frugal Superbowl party will save you both time and money. Split the costs of food and decorations and divide the housework and after-party cleanup.

Skip the fancy decorations

You may want the decorations with the team logos, but these can be costly. Skip the logos and go for team colors, instead. You can find inexpensive party supplies, such as streamers and confetti, at Dollar Tree or Walmart. Or you can even make your own decorations! This will keep your Superbowl party super frugal!

Use real dishes

Paper products can be so expensive and it feels like you’re just tossing money in the trash. Save money by using reusable dishes. If you don’t think you’ll have enough, shop thrift stores or dollar stores to save.
